Garage Door Opener Installation: What the Visit Covers

A good install is more than bolting a motor to the ceiling. These are the steps in order.

1. Check the door first. An opener cannot fix a worn spring or a bent track.
2. Remove the old unit and its wiring, and mount the new header bracket on solid framing.
3. Fit the rail and motor, then connect the door arm.
4. Set the open and close limits and the force setting.
5. Place the photo-eye sensors near the floor and test that the door reverses.
6. Pair your remotes and the wall button, and show you the release handle.

Battery Backup Is Part of Every New Install

California law bars installing a residential opener that lacks battery backup. Health and Safety Code section 19892 applies to installs on or after July 1, 2019. The same section says a replacement door may not be connected to an older opener that fails the rule.

Check the Door Before You Buy the Motor
