When a New Door Beats Another Repair
Repairs are the right call for one failed part. A new door makes more sense in these cases.
- Several panels are damaged. Matching three or four sections can cost as much as a fresh door.
- The model is out of production. Parts are hard to find, so each repair gets harder.
- The door is warped or rusted. The frame no longer holds the hinges firmly.
- The garage gets too hot. Summer afternoons in East County bake an uninsulated garage, and some owners choose an insulated door for that reason.

New Door, New Opener Rules
California law says a replacement door cannot be connected to an older opener that lacks battery backup. Health and Safety Code section 19892 sets this rule for installs on or after July 1, 2019. If your opener is old, plan for opener installation in the same visit.
Permits and HOA Rules Before You Order
The City of Brentwood says building permits are required for almost all construction-related work. Whether a door swap needs one is a question for the Building Division at (925) 516-5405. Homes outside city limits, such as those in Discovery Bay and Byron, fall under the County instead. We cannot rule on your address.
Many neighborhoods also have an HOA. Read its door rules or ask its manager before you pick a style or color.
